USA Today compiles a yearly collection called the “10 Best Reader’s Choice,” and in 2023, Lyons, Colorado, has achieved recognition as the third-best small-town beer scene.
The panel of experts selects nominees for the list, and the 10Best editors present the final nominees. Readers can cast one vote per category per day. After four weeks, the votes are counted, and a winner is announced.
Lyons is situated just north of Boulder, Colorado, and is home to slightly over 2000 residents. It’s sometimes known as “The Double Gateway to the Rockies” due to its location at the crossroads of State Highway 7 and US Highway 36, which lead to Rocky Mountain National Park, only 20 miles east of the town.
Despite its small size, Lyons boasts a vibrant beer scene. At 450 Main St, Mainstage Brewing offers 14 rotating taps daily along with a weekly live bluegrass event. The brewery is renowned for its exceptional craft brews and mouthwatering New York Style pizza.
A short distance away, at 303 Main St, you’ll find the beloved Oskar Blues Grill & Brew. This establishment features craft beers from Oskar Blues Brewery, Breckenridge Brewery, Redstone Meadery, and more. Notably, they’re also acclaimed for serving some of the finest french fries and providing a relaxed atmosphere to savor a cold beverage.
This year’s list of the best small-town beer scenes was led by Hammonton, New Jersey, securing the second spot, while Avondale Estates, Georgia, was proudly awarded the top spot overall.
